Everyone would like to get a discount on their car insurance so that they are getting the lowest possible price. However daily car insurance companies are unlikely to discount a policy especially as the coverage of this type of policy is for such a short period. So how do you go about getting discounted daily insurance?
With any type of policy there are components of the policy that may not be needed, that can be adjusted or changed or even added on. It is important to point out that you should never make false claims when getting a quote for insurance. An insurance document based on false information would be invalid so you would be driving uninsured. There are other ways to get a cheaper daily policy such as shopping around for quotes and one way to potentially get up to a third off your policy.
When you fill in your quote form there are several different variables that can be adjusted. There are of course many factors that you cannot change such as the details about yourself, your driving history, where you live and what car you are getting insured. Other factors however can be adjusted and by doing so reduce the cost of your daily insurance premiums.
One such obvious factor is the level of voluntary excess. There is usually a fixed level of mandatory excess that everyone has to accept but the voluntary component can be decided by you. There will usually be a set number of levels set as pound steps such as 50, 100, 150 and so on. Generally the higher you set the voluntary level of excess the cheaper this will make you policy. This may not always be the case so as it doesn't take much time to adjust and try the different levels of excess to see which is the most cost effective. There is no point in increasing the amount an additional step if it does not reduce the cost of your policy proportionally.
You can also try adding an additional driver to the policy, this may seem like a strange thing to do but sometimes it can actually reduce the overall cost of your premiums. Again as it doesn't take long to make these adjustments to see if it has an effect on the price it is well worth doing.
Often there is a motor legal protection component to the policy. Legal cover may be included or it may be an option that you do not need to have. It is not always a good idea to remove the legal aspect of the cover, specifically the part that provides legal protection for non-fault accidents as it can save a lot of expense should you be involved in an accident. It is best to check the difference in cost between a policy with and without legal protection and then you can decide if the reduction in the cost of the policy is worth leaving it off.
